A young woman has been rescued by local vigilantes in Delta State after an alleged online date reportedly escalated into a kidnapping and robbery incident.

According to reports circulating online, the victim had been communicating with a man she met on social media and later agreed to meet him in person. The meeting, however, allegedly took a dangerous turn when she was taken to a secluded bush path.

Sources said the suspect, alongside an accomplice, reportedly tied the woman to a tree and demanded her banking details. The victim was said to have disclosed her financial information under duress, after which money was allegedly transferred from her account.

Her ordeal reportedly ended when local vigilantes in the area intervened and rescued her from the scene.

Authorities are said to be investigating the incident, with efforts underway to trace the transferred funds and determine whether the suspects are part of a broader criminal network that targets victims through online platforms.

The incident has heightened concerns over the dangers associated with meeting unfamiliar individuals from social media, especially in isolated or unsecured locations.
