– Accuses The Ekanem-Led Electoral Committee Of Committing Irregularities
An Uyo-based legal practitioner, Eyibio Udo, has called for the suspension of the ‘upcoming 2023 Uyo branch election’ for not complying with the electoral guideline on the issuance of an operational guideline for the conduct of the election.
Mr. Udo who doubles as the Chairman of the Elders Forum of NBA Uyo made the call following an earlier resolution at the general meeting of the body in April, calling for the abolishment of the presented guideline.
In a complaint dated May 3, Eyibio noted the failure of the Ekanem’s led electoral committee to publish a new guideline for the conduct of the election, despite an existing resolution of the Elders forum directing same made the entire process nullity.
Eyibio also noted that the failure of the Committee to comply with the directive should serve as a ground for the disbandment of the committee.
“It will be recalled that at the last general meeting, it was generally agreed by the meeting that the Ekanem’s led committee had brought in extraneous items into the guideline and, arising from that, Chief Anselm Eyo had moved a motion that the guidelines as published by the committee should be jettisoned and another should be published immediately in compliance with the NBA Constitution”.
“Dr. Amanim Akpabio also had his motion wherein he stated that the offending portions in the guideline should be removed by the committee and only the provisions of the Unified Byelaws should be published” the complaint reads in part.
