United States Congressman Riley Moore has warned that the US government will hold Nigerian authorities responsible should any harm come to Plateau State-based cleric, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, following the pastor’s claims of threats over his advocacy against anti-Christian attacks.

Moore, who represents West Virginia in the US Congress, issued the warning in a post on his X account after Rev. Dachomo alleged that loyalists of President Bola Tinubu had pressured him to stop posting videos documenting killings and mass burials of Christians in Plateau State.

Rev. Dachomo, in a video shared on his Facebook page on November 21, said he had been receiving warnings from individuals linked to the presidency, including a high-ranking government official. He also referenced a visit from a presidential adviser who reportedly expressed concern over his criticism of the administration.

“They are threatening and warning me to stop exposing President Bola Tinubu’s government over the ongoing killings of Christians by Fulani terrorists,” he stated.

He added that the government was more concerned about his public comments than the continuing attacks in affected communities. “Their silence endangers Christians all over Nigeria,” he said.

Within 24 hours of making the revelations, Rev. Dachomo’s Facebook page was deleted. A new Instagram account he created was also taken down a day later. Meta subsequently restricted him from using its platforms, citing national security concerns.

The actions sparked widespread condemnation from local and international rights advocates, many of whom have offered legal support to the embattled cleric.

In his remarks, Congressman Moore described Rev. Dachomo, who serves as Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, as being in clear danger. He referenced an earlier incident in which the pastor reportedly warned authorities of an imminent attack that later claimed 13 lives.

“We had a pastor who warned the Nigerian government and said, ‘We are under imminent threat. If you don’t send forces here in the next 24 hours, we need help.’ The Nigerian government not only ignored it, but even issued a statement calling it fake news and hyperbole,” Moore said.

“How can you trust a government that does not show up when you ask for help? You can’t. The US will hold the Nigerian government responsible if anything should happen to the pastor.”

The Nigerian government has yet to respond publicly to the congressman’s comments or the allegations raised by Rev. Dachomo.
