A United Kingdom court has sentenced a Nigerian man, Elvis Nosakhare, to six years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting the underage daughter of his girlfriend.
The 41-year-old was arraigned at Aylesbury Crown Court on five counts, including two involving penetrative sexual activity and three counts of non-penetrative sexual activity with a minor. He was found guilty and sentenced on July 29.
According to a statement released by Thames Valley Police, Nosakhare met the victim’s mother through an online dating site and later committed the abuse in what authorities described as a “disgusting betrayal of trust.”
The court also ordered that Nosakhare be placed on the UK Sex Offenders Register for life and imposed a restraining order against him.
The statement read, “Nosakhare met the mother of the victim via an online dating site and then abused her daughter in a disgusting betrayal of trust. The offences happened in the Thames Valley.”
Reacting to the sentencing, Detective Constable Bryn Smith of the Child Abuse Unit commended the victim for her courage during the investigation and trial process.
“I want to commend the victim for her bravery throughout both the investigation and court proceedings. I hope that Elvis Nosakhare’s conviction and sentence give her some sense of justice,” he said.
He urged other victims of abuse to come forward, assuring them of the police’s commitment to pursuing justice.
“Thames Valley Police has dedicated teams who investigate sexual offences, support victims, and bring offenders to justice. I would encourage anyone with information about sexual offences, and victims of sexual offences, to contact the police,” Smith added.
Nosakhare’s conviction adds to a growing list of cases involving sexual misconduct by individuals in positions of trust.
In a related case reported on June 15, another Nigerian, Adewale Kudabo, a healthcare worker in the UK, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for sexually assaulting a female patient at York Hospital. The presiding judge, Alex Menary, ruled that Kudabo had “abused the trust” placed in him as a medical professional.
