Senator Ned Nwoko (APC–Delta North) has issued a strong warning and vowed to pursue lawful action against individuals and groups behind a renewed wave of online harassment, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation targeted at him. His office described the attacks as a coordinated attempt to fabricate narratives for ulterior motives, warning that such tactics undermine national values and could eventually harm anyone.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Communication Team of the Office of Senator Nwoko in Abuja, the lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to his legislative duties, developmental projects, and business engagements, dismissing the online allegations as distractions. “Sen. Nwoko is fully engaged in his legislative, developmental and business responsibilities and has no interest in online distractions or fabricated drama,” the statement read.

The reaction follows a viral video in which a young man claimed he was paid ₦5 million to harm Nwoko’s estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. The senator denied the allegation, describing it as part of a wider smear campaign aimed at stirring unnecessary drama and manipulating public sympathy.

“These actions appear calculated to create a false narrative of persecution in order to serve ulterior motives,” the statement added. “When grave allegations are made, they must be addressed in accordance with the law, not through misinformation or emotional manipulation.”

Nwoko has instructed his legal team to file formal petitions with key security agencies, including the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Cyber Crime Unit. The petitions seek a full investigation to trace digital footprints and prosecute those responsible.

“The relevant digital footprints will be traced and lawful action will be pursued,” the statement affirmed, condemning what it described as a growing culture of shielding wrongdoers and weaponising public sympathy.

The statement also urged authorities in the United States and the United Kingdom to be wary of frivolous asylum claims based on fabricated narratives. “Attempts to stage artificial drama around a stable family structure for the purpose of gaining undue advantage are unacceptable. If frivolous grounds are being put forward to seek asylum, such manoeuvres should be discountenanced. Authorities are encouraged to rely on verified facts and legal processes rather than sensationalised narratives designed to mislead.”

This international caution reflects concerns that the harassment may be exploited for personal gain abroad, potentially harming Nigeria’s credibility.

Warning Nigerians about the dangers of unchecked online falsehoods, the statement noted: “Today, falsehood may be deployed against one individual; tomorrow, it may be directed at anyone.” It urged the public to disregard the circulating claims and allow proper legal processes to take their course.

“The senator remains focused on his work and continues to uphold dignity, responsibility and due process,” it concluded.
