A Registrar of Chicago State University, Caleb Westberg, on Tuesday, swore under oath that President Bola Tinubu attended and graduated from the institution in 1979.

Westberg gave the testimony on Tuesday during a deposition at the law offices of Angela Liu, representing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in Chicago.
Referring to records, Westberg confirmed Tinubu’s admission letter clearly identified him as male, addressing him as “Mr. Tinubu.”
The registrar disclosed that the university continues to receive numerous inquiries, up to 30 daily, from people seeking to verify Tinubu was indeed a student there.
He stressed records show the Tinubu who studied at Chicago State University matches the current Nigerian president, citing the distinctive surname.
Westberg admitted the university only possesses diplomas students failed to collect, not the copy submitted to Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, by Tinubu. He said he could not comment on it because he did not see it.
When explicitly asked if Tinubu enrolled as male or female, the registrar reiterated he applied and was admitted into the university as a male.
Tinubu was represented at the deposition by lawyers Victor P. Henderson and Oluwole Afolabi.
The testimony follows recent controversies over Tinubu’s education background since emerging president. Critics allege he attended the Chicago university as a woman, contrary to Westberg’s affirmation.
The deposition appears to buttress Tinubu’s claims that he graduated from the American university in the late 1970s as a male student.
