Iran’s Football Federation has accused the United States of revoking its ticket allocation for supporters ahead of the country’s 2026 World Cup group stage matches, alleging that the co-host nation is obstructing Iranian fans from attending the tournament.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the federation said the United States had withdrawn Iran’s ticket quota for its three group games, despite the allocation having already been granted in line with FIFA regulations.

According to the Iranian football body, participating federations are entitled to eight percent of tickets for each match, to be distributed to supporters through official channels.

Iran said it had already begun selling tickets for its group stage matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt after receiving its allocation, adding that some supporters had made travel and other arrangements.

“With less than three days remaining until the start of the 2026 World Cup, the United States has once again acted to obstruct the presence of Iranian supporters at the stadiums hosting the national team’s three group stage matches,” the federation said.

“However, in an unexpected move, the allocation granted to the Iranian Football Federation has been withdrawn, and under the current circumstances, the federation is unable to provide even a single ticket to supporters of the national team.”

The federation described the alleged withdrawal as contrary to the spirit of international competitions and the principle of equality among participating countries.

It called on FIFA and tournament organisers to uphold neutrality, fairness and established regulations by ensuring that Iranian supporters are allowed to attend their national team’s matches.

The allegation comes amid worsening diplomatic tensions between Iran and the United States, following reports that Washington had refused visas to some members of Iran’s support staff.

Iran said about 15 administrative and management officials in its World Cup delegation had been unable to enter the United States due to visa-related issues.

The tension has also affected Iran’s tournament preparations, with the country reportedly relocating its World Cup training base from Tucson, Arizona, to the Mexican border city of Tijuana.

Iran are scheduled to begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15, before facing Belgium in the same city on June 21. They will conclude their group stage fixtures against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.

Neither FIFA nor the United States organisers have publicly responded to Iran’s allegation.

The dispute adds a fresh political dimension to Iran’s participation in the World Cup, as the country seeks assurances that its supporters and officials will be treated fairly during the tournament.
