The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) National Control Centre NCC), Osogbo has confirmed the collapse of the national grid.

In a terse statement by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), it directed that the grid should maintain only 7Mw.

The EEDC, Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC Mr. Emeka Ezeh, said: “This is to inform you that after the system collapse earlier today, 26th September 2022, two of our interface TCN Stations at Nibo and Awada received supply at 12.36 pm and 12:37 pm respectively, with a directive by NCC to maintain only 7MW.

“We are still on standby, hoping that full and normal supply will be restored to all other interface TCN stations.”

The grid, which recorded a total generation of 223Mw at 15:00hour of 26th September, 2022 dropped to a total generation of 83Mw within the same time on the same day owing to the incident.

The blackout resulted in a swift demand for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol with many power consumers buying the product in plastic Jerry cans.

The Public Affairs Department of the TCN said it was working on its statement when our correspondent called to seek the cause of the collapse and the effort at grid restored.
