The Niger State Police Command has arrested 139 suspects following a crackdown on alleged unlawful assembly, violent rally, thuggery and other criminal activities in Suleja and surrounding communities.

Sixty-four of the suspects have subsequently been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Suleja and remanded in a correctional centre.
Police Public Relations Officer for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday.
According to the Police, the operation followed reports that some persons participating in an alleged unlawful and violent rally in Suleja were armed with dangerous weapons and were attacking and robbing members of the public.
Following the security concerns, Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, deployed a specialised police team to Suleja on August 4, 2026, to restore order and clamp down on suspected criminal elements.
Acting on intelligence, the operatives subsequently conducted sting operations and raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots across Suleja and its environs.
The areas targeted included Madalla, Kwata, Bakin-Ruwa, Dikko, Kaduna Road, Sabon-Wuse, Gwazunu and Chaza.
“During the raid operations, a total number of one hundred and thirty-nine suspects were arrested at different locations mentioned above,” the Police said.
The suspects were subsequently screened and investigated.
According to the command, 64 of those arrested were allegedly linked to criminal activities, while quantities of suspected cannabis and various dangerous weapons were recovered.
Items allegedly recovered included scissors, knives, cutlasses and four live cartridges.
The 64 suspects were consequently taken before the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Suleja on allegations including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, aiding and abetting, harbouring suspected criminals and providing information to alleged miscreants.
Other allegations listed by the Police include causing the disappearance of evidence, mischief and possession of dangerous weapons.
The court subsequently ordered that the suspects be remanded in a correctional centre.
The Police said the operation was part of sustained measures to curb thuggery, violent gatherings and other criminal activities capable of threatening public peace in Suleja and neighbouring communities.
The command assured residents that security operations would continue against suspected criminal elements across Niger State.
It also urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and provide useful information capable of assisting the Police in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
The allegations against those arraigned remain subject to determination by the court.
