Five police officers have been charged before the High Court of Delta State, sitting in the Asaba Judicial Division, over the alleged murder of a 28-year-old man, Oghenememe Ogidi.

The charge was filed by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, against ASP Usman Nuhu, ASP Onoloko Dauropamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingsley and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on April 26, 2026, at Sapele Motor Park, Effurun, within the Asaba High Court Criminal Judicial Division.

In Count One, ASP Usman Nuhu, 42, was accused of unlawfully and gruesomely murdering Ogidi by shooting him with an AK-47 rifle assigned to him as a serving police officer for the protection of lives and property.

The offence was said to be contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

In Count Two, all five defendants were accused of conspiracy over alleged negligent conduct in connection with the incident.

The prosecution alleged that ASP Usman Nuhu, ASP Onoloko Dauropamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingsley and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu conspired among themselves to commit an offence relating to negligent conduct.

The offence was said to be punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Laws of Delta State, 2006.

In Count Three, four of the officers, ASP Onoloko Dauropamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingsley and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu, were accused of neglecting their duty as police officers by allegedly failing to immediately rush Ogidi to a nearby hospital for treatment after he was shot by ASP Usman Nuhu.

The charge stated that the alleged omission constituted an offence punishable under Section 344 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Laws of Delta State, 2006.

The charge sheet was signed by CSP Gladys Imegu, State Legal Officer, and Dr R. O. Ishiguzo, Legal Officer and Director of Legal Service, Delta State Police Command, Asaba.

The document also contains spaces for arraignment date, plea, bail, sentence, finding, court order, prosecutor, judge, counsel, investigating police officer, exhibits, adjournment date and date of disposal, indicating that further court proceedings are expected in the matter.
