Enugu State Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Industry, Hon. Adaora Chukwu, has formally resigned from her position, ending her tenure in the administration of Governor Peter Mbah just over a year after her appointment.

In a statement shared Thursday via her official social media account, Chukwu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the state but offered no specific reasons for her resignation.

“I wish to officially inform the public that I have resigned from my role as Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry in Enugu State. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the support I received throughout my tenure,” she wrote.

“I extend my best wishes to His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, and the entire State Government as they continue to drive progress in our dear state.”

Chukwu’s resignation has sparked interest and speculation across political circles, not only due to her role in a key economic ministry but also her political lineage. She is widely known to be the daughter of former Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime, who served two terms under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Appointed in 2023 as part of Governor Mbah’s 20-member Executive Council, Chukwu was unveiled following the administration’s first cabinet meeting, with her appointment announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.

While official reasons for her departure remain undisclosed, sources close to the state government told The Sun Not TheNigeriaLawyer  that the decision may have been driven by personal or family-related considerations rather than political disagreements or workplace conflicts.

A source familiar with the situation dismissed rumors of internal strife or misconduct, saying, “Knowing she’s Sullivan Chime’s daughter, I doubt anyone would dare to act inappropriately toward her. Besides, Peter Mbah and Chime are political allies; Sullivan even campaigned for him in 2023. No one would oppress her under his watch.”

The insider further urged the public, particularly constituents from the Nsukka region, to avoid spreading speculation and conspiracy theories. “We should refrain from manufacturing negative narratives when we don’t know the full story. It does more harm than good,” the source added.
