Concerned parents and guardians of students admitted to study Law at Lead City University, Ibadan, have raised the alarm over what they described as a fraudulent admission exercise by the institution despite a five-year moratorium placed on its Law programme.

In a petition dated February 19, 2026 and addressed to the Director General of the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, Abuja, the parents appealed to the management of the Council of Legal Education to intervene urgently and save the future of their children.

The petition, signed by Chief J. A. Omigbure on behalf of the concerned parents and guardians, accused the university of repeatedly admitting students into its Faculty of Law for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions despite lacking approval from the regulatory authorities.

According to the petition, the university allegedly admitted the students even though the Law Faculty was under a five-year moratorium on admissions imposed by the Council of Legal Education.

“We the parents and guardians of the students admitted into the Faculty of Law, Lead City University, Ibadan, for 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 academic sessions, are making this passionate appeal to the Council of Legal Education and the management of the Nigerian Law School to save our souls and our children from the selfish, unrepentant and profit-making interest of the management of the Faculty of Law,” the petition read.

The parents claimed that after discovering the faculty allegedly lacked approval to admit students, some of them confronted the university management over what they described as deception.

However, they alleged that the university management responded by asking the affected students to temporarily carry out “fake transfers” to other faculties while retaining admission letters indicating they were admitted into the Law Faculty.

According to them, the university promised to move the students back to the Law Faculty once the situation with regulators was resolved.

“The university management later convened a meeting of our children and asked them to do fake transfers to other faculties while their admission letters still indicated the Faculty of Law. They told them they would later move them back when the coast is clear,” the petition stated.

The parents further alleged that despite the ongoing restrictions, the university again admitted a fresh set of Law students for the 2025/2026 academic session and even proceeded to matriculate them.

They described the development as a profit-driven scheme by the institution that exploits the desperation of students seeking admission to study law.

“As a result of the university’s profit-making mindset, some unsuspecting parents were deceived again when the university admitted law students for the 2025–2026 academic session and matriculated them,” the petition added.

The parents also claimed that the university management had been telling the students that the issue would be resolved after the appointment of a new Director General of the Nigerian Law School.

They urged the newly appointed Director General to intervene immediately and halt what they described as a yearly fraudulent admission exercise.

“Madam DG, please save our souls and those of our children by putting an end to this annual fraudulent, unreasonable and egoistic admission exercise that benefits no one but only the university management,” the petition stated.

Copies of the petition were also sent to the Chairman of the Council of Legal Education.
