The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on Christian couples to prioritize romance in their marriages, urging them not to let spiritual responsibilities overshadow their conjugal duties.

The respected cleric stressed that being deeply involved in religious work should not hinder intimacy between spouses.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Adeboye emphasized that romance is an essential part of a healthy Christian marriage.
“The fact that you are a Christian does not in any way take the romance out of your marriage,” he said. “Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy are allowed between a man and a woman.”
Addressing the issue of some pastors neglecting their relationships, Adeboye urged Christian leaders to embrace romantic activities, including going on dates with their spouses.
“Some pastors hardly go on dates with their spouses because they consider such a romantic activity as a distraction from their focus on spiritual matters. Some of them don’t even play with their spouses anymore,” he noted.
Citing biblical references, Adeboye drew attention to the example of Isaac, a patriarch of faith, yet seen enjoying moments of intimacy with his wife, Rebecca.
“Isaac was an anointed man of God and a successful businessman, yet in Genesis 26:8, the Bible says he was being romantic with his wife,” he explained.
He further advised couples to make their time together enjoyable, stating, “Don’t become too rigid in your marriage; don’t have more fun elsewhere without your spouse. Make the times that you and your spouse spend together so much fun that you are always looking forward to seeing each other again.”
The octogenarian, who has been married to his wife Foluke for over five decades, shared that they continue to nurture their love through endearing gestures like using pet names.
