The Rivers State Judicial Service Commission calls for expression of interest as a High Court Judge.

This is contained in a general public notice dated 29th day of July, 2020 which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer, titled “CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST/APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS JUDGE OF HIGH COURT OF RIVERS STATE”.

“Pursuant to Rule 3 of the 2014 Revised Guidelines for the Appointment of Judicial Officers of All Superior Court of Record in Nigeria, and the following announcement of vacancies in the office of Judge of High Court of Rivers State Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission, by this notice, hereby calls for expression of interest/application from suitable candidates for appointment as Judge of the High Court of Rivers State.” The notice read.

However, the Notice provides for the following three eligibility criteria:

“To be eligible for consideration for this appointment, the candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements:-

1) Candidate must be a Legal Practitioner in Nigeria and must have been so qualified for a period of not less than ten (10) years with considerable knowledge and experience in the practice of law.

2) Candidates must be of good character and reputation with strong traits of diligence, hard work, honest, integrity, sound knowledge of law, and consistent adherence to professional ethics.

3) Candidates must have:

a) Active successful practice at the Bar, including satisfactory presentation of cases in court as a Legal Practitioner either in private practice or as a Legal Officer in any Public Service; and/or

b) Satisfactory and consistent display of sound and mature judgement in the office as a Chief Registrar or Chief Magistrate; and/or

c) Credible record of teaching law, legal research in a reputation University and publication of legal works.”

However, the application is expected to be forwarded to the Chairman, Rivers Judicial Service Commission.

“Suitable qualified and interested persons are to forward their expression of Interest/Application with requisite qualifications and detailed curriculum vitae to:

“The Chairman,
Judicial Service Commission,. 1st Floor, Block B,
High Court Complex,
Port Harcourt.
Rivers State.”. The Notice read.

Finally, application closes on 14th day of August, 2020.

“Expression of Interest/Application must reach the Commission on or before Friday, 14th August 2020, at 4:00 p.m” The Notice concluded.
