The House of Representatives is to investigate the activities of the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) between 2015 and 2020 with a view to ascertaining whether there has been act if corruption in the management of the agency.

The House had last week stepped down a motion pass a vote of no confidence on the Managing Director of the Company, opting to investigate the activities of the company.

Adopting a motion of urgent public importance Sponsored by Rep. Mohammed Wudil and 24 others, the House mandated its Committees on Power, Financial Crimes and Anti-corruption to carry out the investigation and report back to the House for further action.

Moving the motion on behalf of his co-sponsors, Rep Wudil said that in line with the provisions of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives, the Committee on Power is saddled with the responsibility of carrying out oversight on the Ministry of Power and its agencies, including the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

He said the Committee on Power is in receipt of complaints against Nigeria Bulk Trading Company (NBET) since inception of the agency.

He said further that they are aware of several anti-corruption agencies among which are the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Office of the Auditor General for the Federation have earlier investigated the agency and came out With reports.

The committee is to submit its report to the House for further action within three weeks.
