*Says One Law Must Apply To All Nigerians Irrespective Of Where They Come From
*Calls On President Buhari To Extend Patronage To Igbo man As He Does To Hausa/Fulani

A human rights lawyer and Activist, Mr. Silas Joseph Onu, Esq, has written President Buhari calling for equal application of the law on all Nigerians.

In a letter sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer, Onu expressed concern that the Boko Haram that has been killing, maiming, and terrorizing Nigerians enjoy privileges from government in the guise of rehabilitation and reintegration program while Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members don’t.

He calls on President Buhari to extend patronage to Igbo man the same way he did to Hausa/Fulani

AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES.

SUNDAY 4TH JULY, 2021.

Abuja – Nigeria 🇳🇬

Your Excellency sir,

WHAT IS GOOD FOR ONE TERRORIST IS CERTAINLY GOOD FOR ALL OTHER TERRORISTS.

I am an ardent follower of how our hardworking security agencies have had to repeatedly fight to “secure” the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, almost entirely, from internal conflicts or agitations like demonstrations and calls for self-determination.

Your Excellency, have no doubt that I am a patriot and will rather have a radically restructured Nigeria, than to see it disintegrate into smaller nations mostly along ethnic lines. So, this open letter is written in the overall interest of Nigeria.

Sir, permit me to be very brief by focusing on the main point of concern in order not to conflate issues and loose the message intended herein.

I have followed, with mixed feelings, how the Nigerian military have treated those our laws have regarded as terrorist and how one of such is now being treated.

I am not making a case for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but it is only proper that our laws apply to all without Favour or excuses bothering on religious or ethnic considerations.

It is curious how members of the dreaded Boko Haram that have and are still gladly terrorizing, maiming and killing Nigerians get to enjoy a great deal of government’s largesse for their atrocities under the guise of de-radicalization and reintegration program, while others, mainly because of their ethnicity, are made to face the full wrath of our laws without an iota of consideration for de-radicalization and reintegration program – are some Nigerians of blue blood and deserving of a second chance while others aren’t?

To my mind, if IPOB is a proscribed organization, it will seem that Boko Haram isn’t. Maybe, that is why their members enjoy the patronage of government rehabilitation program. If so, when is the Federal Government going to proscribe Boko Haram? Maybe then, the treatment of terrorist will be even.

However, since it is not I doubt that those that enjoyed these rehabilitation program were clearly terrorist and based on the Federal Government’s policy, Nnamdi Kanu is also a terrorist. Why can’t the government simply extend its de-radicalization and reintegration program to Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB members? Aren’t they also Nigerians who have supposedly broken the same law?

One law must apply to all Nigerians, irrespective of where they come from – North or South, Muslim or Christian.

Mr. President sir, if you are truly a President for all Nigerians, then extend the same patronage to the Igbo man that have transgressed, just as you did the Hausa/Kanuri/Fulani man that transgressed as Boko Haram – rehabilitate and reintegration Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Your Excellency, it is my hope that you will give a kind consideration to this innocuous request in the overall interest of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
