The Lagos State Government has sealed Vaniti Club House located on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, for repeatedly violating the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
The enforcement, carried out by the Rescue and Compliance Unit of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), was prompted by the club’s habitual facilitation of illegal roadside parking and encroachment on public highways, which authorities say disrupted traffic flow and endangered public safety.
In a statement issued Monday, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the action underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring smooth vehicular movement across Lagos.
“The enforcement was carried out due to the club’s habitual and defiant infringement of established traffic laws, particularly its persistent facilitation of illegal roadside parking and flagrant encroachment upon public highways,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He explained that such activities constitute a clear breach of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, which prohibits obstruction of traffic and actions that compromise road safety. The law classifies such violations as serious offences warranting sanctions.
Despite several public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholder engagements, and official warnings, the management of Vaniti Club House reportedly failed to comply.
“They chose to perpetuate acts that undermine the operational integrity of the state’s traffic ecosystem, especially within the high-traffic corridor of Victoria Island,” he added.
The state government, he said, has exercised its full regulatory powers to seal the premises indefinitely. The closure will remain until the establishment proves total and verifiable compliance with all relevant traffic regulations.
Bakare-Oki also emphasized that the enforcement action is part of a broader and sustained compliance drive targeting clubs, event centres, lounges, and recreational facilities that obstruct traffic by converting public roads into private parking spaces.
“This is not a one-off occurrence. We are actively monitoring other establishments that persist in impeding traffic flow,” he said.
