A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and respected political commentator, Barrister Jesutega Onokpasa, has passed away.

Onokpasa, a lawyer known for his vocal support of the APC and President Bola Tinubu, reportedly died on Monday under yet-to-be-disclosed circumstances.
His death was confirmed on Tuesday by APC supporter Okezie Atani, who posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account:
“We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, may his soul rest in perfect peace.”
In a tribute titled “A Farewell to a Passionate Advocate: Honouring Jesutega Onokpasa’s Legacy”, the Renewed Hope United Kingdom Facebook page described the deceased as a passionate figure in Nigeria’s legal and political spheres.
“The passing of Barrister Jesutega Onokpasa is a profound loss to the Nigerian political and legal landscape. As a dedicated lawyer and political commentator, he was deeply engaged in shaping discourse and advocating for his beliefs,” the tribute read.
“His contributions as a member of the APC Publicity Committee and the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 reflected his commitment to his party and the nation. Onokpasa’s voice, whether in support or critique, was a vital part of Nigeria’s democratic conversation, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Onokpasa rose to national prominence for his consistent presence in the media, defending the policies of the APC and President Tinubu. He was a familiar face on political talk shows and was widely regarded for his articulate, and often fiery, commentaries.
He is survived by his wife and children. The APC and several political allies are expected to release official tributes in the coming days.
