The University of Calabar has appointed Dr. Rose Ohiama Ugbe as the new Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, effective Tuesday, August 22nd.

This follows the recent suspension of the former Dean, Professor Cyril Ndifon, amid allegations of misconduct.

Vice Chancellor Professor Florence Banku Obi announced Dr. Ugbe’s appointment after approving the setting up of a committee to oversee student mobilization and review of admissions to the Nigerian Law School.

Dr. Ugbe joined the University in 1995 and has over 25 years of distinguished service. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Jos and rose to become Associate Professor in 2016. Her past roles include Sub Dean of Law, Head of Department of Private and Property Law, and Deputy Director at the Entrepreneurship Development Centre.

The Vice Chancellor pleaded for patience as the university fully investigates the allegations against Prof. Ndifon. She expressed confidence in Dr. Ugbe’s leadership and oversight abilities during this transition period until a new substantive Dean is elected.

Students, alumni and stakeholders have welcomed Dr. Ugbe’s appointment as the Faculty progresses under her guidance. Her academic and administrative expertise is expected to steer the Faculty through this turbulent period.
