The Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos has detained an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) attached to the Isheri-Oshun Division for allegedly doctoring a case file and medical report related to a sexual assault case against a local hotelier.

According to Mr Adegoke Fayoade, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 2, the IPO allegedly altered the case file and doctor’s report concerning allegations that the hotelier had anal sex with multiple teenage students at his hotel in Isheri-Oshun. The hotelier allegedly threatened the students not to reveal the abuse or they would die.

The case came to light after one of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, confessed to his parents about the sexual abuse and later suffered a mental breakdown. The parents reported the incident to the Zone 2 command headquarters.

After the suspect was detained, his lawyer claimed they had previously reported the case to Zone 2 for investigation. However, when police retrieved the case file from a unit within Zone 2, they discovered it had been doctored.

“The confessional statement made at Isheri Osun Division by another teenager, who suffered the same fate and reports from doctors at Mirable Center at the General Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, were doctored,” a police source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

On the AIG’s orders, detectives from the Zonal Oracle unit led by CSP Uba launched a further investigation at the Isheri Osun Police Station. The IPO who delivered the altered report allegedly confessed to removing some statements from the case file. The hidden statements were recovered, including a detailed account from a second victim along with documented evidence.

NAN has also learned that additional police officers from the Ejigbo Division may be questioned regarding their alleged roles when zonal command detectives initially attempted to arrest the hotelier at his hotel.

The Zone 2 Police Command is continuing to investigate the sexual assault allegations against the suspect as well as the alleged misconduct by the IPO in doctoring official case documents. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
