The Nigeria Police Force has arrested four more suspects in connection to Friday’s deadly bank robbery and attacks in Otukpo, Benue State.

The suspects were apprehended on Saturday by joint security forces comprising police and military personnel along the Otukpo-Taraku road.

A police source confirmed the arrests and noted the suspects were part of the armed robbers who raided banks and a police station in Otukpo town on Friday.

Video footage shows the four suspects handcuffed and seated on the roadside following their capture. The Benue State Police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, urged patience while investigations continue into the high-profile crime.

On Friday afternoon, armed robbers stormed Otukpo where they robbed a bank, ransacked a police station, and killed several people including police officers and civilians. The Divisional Police Officer, CSP John Adikwu, was among three other officers killed.

The Nigeria Police Force has strongly condemned the heinous attack. Two suspects were gunned down on Friday while attempting to flee the scene. With the latest arrests, more suspects have now been apprehended.

In response, the Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the immediate deployment of additional resources and a coordinated effort to catch other suspects still at large. A red alert has also been issued to all police commands to prevent further violent incidents as the ember months approach.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scale of the deadly Otukpo attacks. The police remains committed to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face justice for the callous crimes committed.
