It should be noted that ” Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Consequently, a Declaration of this kind is a threat to the Peace, unity and stability of Nigeria and a breach of the Right to Freedom of Movement enshrined in Section 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Kaduna Declaration has further infringed on the Right to acquire and own immovable property enshrined in section 43 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These are the early warning signs of another perceived civil war which might bring to an end, the entity called ‘Nigeria’ that shouldn’t be handled with levity. A wise man once said “two wrongs cannot make a right ” and it is on this note that Peace December is calling on both parties to embrace Peace. Resorting to violence will not in anyway resolve the problem but will end up muddying the water, like adding salt to injury. The Federal Government and other international Organizations should call on leaders from the respective factions for a Peace Talk as dialogue remains the best form of settling disputes. They must act swiftly to salvage the good people of Nigeria from this imminent danger that looms around, before it spreads like wild fire. In exercising this function, the Federal Government should act as an independent arbiter to foster and facilitate a peace process amongst the two ethnic nationalities in line with the Fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy, particularly enshrined in section 15 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Let’s give peace a chance!! A stitch in time saves nine!!! Spoke Person: Sogo Emmanuel.]]>
