*APC Alleges Irregularities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the recently conducted local government elections in Oyo State, securing all 33 chairmanship seats.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) announced the results on Saturday, with the ruling party comfortably defeating the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in every local government area.

OYSIEC chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), along with the Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, and other security agencies in the state, commended the conduct of the poll, describing it as free, fair, credible, and violence-free. However, the APC has rejected the results, claiming that the election was a sham that could tarnish the state’s reputation if allowed to stand.

According to the results announced by OYSIEC returning officers, the PDP won by a significant margin in all 33 local government areas. In Ibadan North, the PDP secured 73,240 votes compared to the APC’s 5,548, while in Akinyele, the PDP garnered 66,325 votes against the APC’s 3,477. The trend continued across the state, with the PDP consistently outperforming the APC.

The landslide victory for the PDP in the local government elections has further solidified the party’s dominance in Oyo State politics. Governor Seyi Makinde, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2019, has been working to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and deliver on his campaign promises.

The APC, however, has rejected the election results, alleging irregularities and malpractices. The party has called for the cancellation of the polls and demanded a thorough investigation into the conduct of the election. The APC’s stance has raised concerns about the potential for political tension and discord in the state.
