The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen security operations and improve intelligence gathering across the state.

The aircraft arrived in Ibadan on Tuesday, fulfilling the state government’s earlier assurance that they would be delivered before the end of July.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced the development in a statement, describing the arrival of the aircraft as another major step in the government’s efforts to improve security through aerial surveillance and technology-driven intelligence gathering.

Oyelade recalled that the state government announced the acquisition of the two aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of measures to enhance the capacity of security agencies to respond effectively to emerging security challenges across Oyo State.

According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, disclosed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their deployment to the state.

The commissioner said the government later assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, adding that the arrival of the aircraft had now fulfilled that promise.

He explained that the aircraft would support security agencies, including the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, and other relevant security formations, in monitoring criminal activities, gathering intelligence and improving response operations across the state.

Oyelade added that Governor Makinde was at the airport to receive the two aircraft on arrival.

The acquisition is expected to provide security agencies with enhanced aerial surveillance capability and support coordinated efforts to detect, track and respond to criminal activities across Oyo State.

The state government said the aircraft form part of its broader strategy to deploy technology-driven solutions to strengthen the state’s security architecture and safeguard lives and property.
