As of November 2, 2017, checks by our correspondent on the web portals of these regulatory bodies and government establishments showed that many still had the .ng, .org or .com domain names. The need for government agencies and parastatals to adopt the gov.ng domain name is in line with the drive to use the Information and Communications Technology for efficient service delivery and improve the ease of doing business in the country. The Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency, Dr. Isa Pantami, in June this year, conducted an assessment of the websites of the federal ministries and identified that they lacked feedback forms, reachable phone numbers and email addresses and other information necessary to facilitate ease of doing business. He directed all government agencies to adopt the gov.ng domain, a form of identity for the government on the Internet, and in compliance with the Federal Government’s executive order. “Requests for domain registration and other support services are attended to within 24 hours if all the requirements are provided,” Patanmi said. The Bureau of Public Enterprises, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Atomic Energy Commission are among the government agencies that had ng.org, .org and .ng domain, respectively. The parastatals without gov.ng web address cut across different sectors such as education, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Information and Culture, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Labour and Employment among others. Under the Ministry of Defence, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Navy, and the Defence Space Agency still maintained the mil.ng domain name while the Nigerian Defence Academy had the edu.ng domain. In the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, about two government establishments have not adopted the gov.ng domain name. They are the Nigerian Television Authority and the News Agency of Nigeria. Others, such as the Voice of Nigeria, Nigerian Film Corporation, and the National Orientation Agency that appear to have adopted the gov.ng domain name are not accessible through the websites. The Federal Ministry of Education has the highest number of parastatals – 12 – that still maintain the old domain names.]]>
