The future that we all seek will not materialise if we give room for parochial interests and selfish ambitions. What we need at this time is mutual cooperation to enthrone a leader that recognises and caters for the yearnings and aspirations of the members of the Bar.

Looking at the antecedents of Mr. Olumide Akpata, I am unshaken in my conviction that Olu has the leadership qualities needed to move the Bar forward. His vision, charisma and midas touch makes him eminently deserving of being our leader. His light will be the lamp to our feet as we embark on the quest for a new and better NBA. A Bar that gives you a voice, irrespective of your tongue, tribe, religion, year of call or place of practice.

At the risk of prolixity, I dare to reiterate that leadership requires experience, and Olumide Akpata’s track record speaks volume of his ability to deliver effective leadership to the NBA. I therefore urge every member of the Bar to look inwards and envision the future of our NBA with Olumide Akpata as the President.

In specific terms, Olumide Akpata’s love and support for young lawyers is legendary. It is on record that Olu has consistently shown support for young lawyers, more than any other candidate in this election. Olu does not pay lip service or seek to impress. No. He believes and has invested in the welfare of lawyers in general, and the development and empowerment of young lawyers as the future of the profession.

The challenges facing the Bar today are not only real; they are diverse and complex. But they can be tackled if we have the right person leading the bar. What we will not do as change agents and supporters of Olumide Akpata is to succumb to despair or allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the views of some individuals as expressed in the unfair letter written by Chief Awomolo, SAN. Indeed, times like these are often a good test of one’s character and determination to succeed, for in the words of the Scriptures, if you faint in the day of adversity then your strength is small.

We shall continue to trudge on as soldiers until victory is achieved because God is our strength. In concluding, I join thousands of other Change Agents to say that, indeed,  Akpata is coming!

To vote right, is to vote Olumide Akpata for NBA president.

#OluForAll.
