Mr Olasupo Shasore, SAN, a partner in the law firm of ALP (Africa Law Practice) and former Attorney General of Lagos State, has voluntarily resigned from the Justice Reform Project (JRP).

JRP, was set up in February 2019 with membership cutting across senior and junior lawyers. It consists of not less than 20 Senior Advocates of Nigeria with members including Kayode Sofola, Tani Molajo, Funke Adekoya, Femi Atoyebi, and Yemi Candide-Johnson.

Resignation of Mr. Shasore, SAN is contained in a Notice by JRP and made available to TheNigeriaLawyer (TNL)

It reads:

“Mr. Olasupo Shasore, SAN has today 16th July, 2020 voluntarily relinquished his role and function in the Justice Reform Project in the light of serious allegations made against him in a professional capacity in recent proceedings arising from the controversial P & ID arbitration with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“At some point, Mr. Shahore, SAN acted counsel to the Federal Government of Nigeria. For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Shashore, SAN insisted that at all time, he acted properly and professionally in the best interest of his client and that he will exercise all legal options to vindicate his conduct and defend his well earned high professional reputation.

“In the interim however, in order that these developments do not detract or distract from the important mission of the JRP to which he remains fully committed, he has resigned and recused himself from its functions indefinitely.”

Recall that the federal government says Olasupo Shasore colluded with Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) to avert justice in the controversial gas supply purchasing agreement (GSPA) contract

An arbitration document seen by TheNigeriaLawyer revealed that Nigeria argued before the Business and Property Courts of England and Wales that Shasore made payment of $200,000 to senior lawyers at the ministry of petroleum resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to buy their silence.

The federal government argued that Shasore made the payment so the lawyers do not speak up on his conduct to work against Nigeria’s interest.
