A pregnant woman from Ogun State, Rahemat Lateef, who was reported kidnapped while on her way to deliver at the State General Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, has been found safe in Kwara State.

The Ogun State Police Command revealed on Monday that the alleged abduction was a fabrication by Rahemat herself.

Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that Rahemat was never kidnapped but had fled to Kwara State to avoid confronting her husband after suffering another miscarriage. The woman, frustrated by repeated pregnancy losses, had concocted the kidnapping scenario out of fear of her husband’s reaction.

“Rahemat Lateef, who was reported abducted by her husband, was never kidnapped. Instead, she planned her journey to Kwara State to escape her husband’s wrath, following repeated miscarriages,” Odutola explained.

The police spokesperson added that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit had been tracking Rahemat’s movements until she resurfaced. “She fabricated the story herself, travelled to Kwara State, and was far from being kidnapped,” Odutola clarified.

The incident came to light when Rahemat’s husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported receiving a WhatsApp message claiming his wife had been abducted by unknown individuals while en route to the hospital.

Odutola confirmed that Rahemat is now under medical attention and is safe. The case underscores the complex emotional challenges faced by couples dealing with recurrent pregnancy losses and the importance of open communication and support in such situations.
