The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed heavy sanctions on Kano Pillars Football Club following violent incidents during their Match Day 8 fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.
The league announced a ₦9.5 million fine, a deduction of 3 points and 3 goals, and the indefinite closure of the Sani Abacha Stadium, pending compliance with safety requirements. Home games will be relocated to Katsina State until the club can guarantee security.
According to a formal document titled “FORM 16: Summary Jurisdiction Notice,” dated October 13, 2025, and signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, Kano Pillars breached five league rules. Violations ranged from failure to provide adequate security to physical assault on players and match officials.
“You are in breach of Rule B13.52… during your Match Day 8 fixture, Kano Pillars FC vs Shooting Stars FC, you failed to provide adequate and effective security, which resulted in unauthorized persons gaining access to restricted areas and the field of play,” the NPFL stated.
The league further noted that home supporters harassed visiting players and officials, threw dangerous objects onto the pitch, and invaded restricted areas to physically assault the away team.
Sanctions include:
₦1 million fine for failure to provide adequate security
₦1 million fine for throwing dangerous objects
₦1 million fine for failure to ensure proper conduct of supporters
₦1 million fine for misconduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute
₦2 million fine for assaulting visiting players and officials
₦2 million compensation for Shooting Stars’ players and officials
₦1.5 million compensation for match officials
Deduction of 3 points and 3 goals
Closure of Sani Abacha Stadium for the rest of the season (minimum 10 home matches)
Relocation of home games to Katsina State
Kano Pillars have been instructed to identify and prosecute those responsible for the pitch invasion and submit a comprehensive security plan within seven working days. The NPFL also gave the club 48 hours to accept the punishment or appeal, warning that frivolous appeals could lead to additional sanctions.
