The director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, expressed confidence on Wednesday, June 5, that those who opposed the new national anthem would soon join in singing it.

Issa-Onilu also announced that the agency will soon be inviting submissions for the production of the authentic melody for the anthem.
He emphasised that the current national pledge remains valid.
He, however, refuted the report circulating on social media that the federal government allocated over N800 billion for the campaign for the new national anthem, stating that no allocation has been set aside for the campaign as rumoured on social media.
He said, “Regarding questions about national prayer, the NOA will follow the official procedure to obtain approval for the adoption of a new national prayer.
“The national pledge remains valid and operational.
“The NOA’s values orientation programmes as envisioned under the Federal Government’s National Values Charter seek to define the Nigerian citizens’ shared identity, with clearly stated commitment of both leaders and followers.”
In the standardised version of the reintroduced national anthem, only one word was changed.
The word “and” in line five of the first stanza was corrected to “are,” making the official line read, “Nigerians all, are proud to serve.”

Stanza 1 Nigeria, we hail thee Our own dear native land Though tribes and tongues may differ In brotherhood, we stand Nigerians all, are proud to serve Our sovereign Motherland. ,
Stanza 2 Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign In peace or battle, honour’d, And this we count as gain, To hand on to our children A banner without stain.
Stanza 3 O God of all creation Grant this our one request, Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed, And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.
