…Centralising Passport Production Will Not Disrupt Applications
…Applicants Can Continue Biometric Capture At Local Centres

The Nigeria Immigration Service has assured Nigerians that passport services remain fully operational nationwide despite the migration of additional passport branches to the Central Passport Personalisation Centre.

The Service gave the assurance in a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday following concerns that the administrative exercise could disrupt passport processing and issuance.

According to the NIS, the migration is a strategic measure intended to strengthen passport production, improve efficiency and enhance the security of Nigeria’s travel documents.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service wants to clarify that the recent migration of additional passport branches to the Central Personalization Centre is a strategic administrative enhancement, rather than a suspension of services,” the statement said.

The Service assured applicants that passport enrolment and biometric data capture would continue without interruption at passport offices across the country.

It explained that applicants could still visit their selected local passport centres to complete the required biometric capture and other enrolment procedures.

“Applicants can still visit their local centres to complete biometric data capture seamlessly,” the NIS stated.

The agency said the centralisation of passport production was designed to bring Nigeria’s passport issuance process in line with international security standards.

According to the Service, the arrangement will also streamline processing timelines and safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian passport by ensuring greater uniformity in production.

“This centralised production framework is designed to align with global security standards, streamline processing timelines, and significantly safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian passport,” it said.

The NIS further assured Nigerians that completed passport booklets would continue to be produced at the central facility and returned to the relevant passport offices for collection within the established delivery period.

“Citizens can be rest assured that capturing centres remain fully operational, with physical booklets processed efficiently and returned to local commands within standard delivery windows,” the statement added.

The clarification followed public concerns over the migration of additional passport offices to the central production system, with some applicants expressing fears that the development could delay appointments, biometric capture and the issuance of passport booklets.

The Service maintained that the exercise would not prevent applicants from visiting their local centres or completing the required procedures.

It urged passport applicants to disregard suggestions that services had been suspended and to continue using the official application and enrolment channels.

The NIS said the centralised framework was ultimately intended to improve the reliability, security and efficiency of passport production while ensuring that applicants continued to access services at passport centres nationwide.
