The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed reports alleging an ongoing move to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, describing the claims as baseless and misleading.

The Assembly said there is no motion or initiative before lawmakers aimed at removing the deputy governor, insisting that such reports were fabricated to create unnecessary political tension in the state.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday, the spokesperson to the Speaker of the House, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said the rumours circulating in some media outlets do not reflect the reality within the Assembly.

“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the Deputy Governor,” Shawai said.

“These reports are false and should be disregarded by the public. The Deputy Governor continues to serve in his capacity with the full support of the House.”

He urged members of the public and media practitioners to verify information before publication, stressing that inaccurate reports could undermine political stability and public confidence.

According to him, the Assembly remains committed to its legislative and oversight responsibilities rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres.

“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours,” he added.

The Deputy Governor has not publicly responded to the impeachment speculation. However, sources within the state government said he continues to participate actively in official programmes and engagements.

The controversy followed recent comments by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who, during a radio interview, reportedly called on the deputy governor to resign over alleged political differences.

A political analyst in Kano, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the Assembly’s denial as a strategic step to calm tensions, noting that unverified reports of political crises can quickly generate public anxiety and unrest.
