The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has resolved to shut down operations at the Corporate Affairs Commission Abuja Headquarters.

This is sequel to the expiration of 14 days ultimatum’ earlier issued by the NLC with effect from Wednesday, February 24-26, 2021,

This was disclosed in a communique signed by the President, Comrade Ayuba Waba and the General Secretary of the Congress,  Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja.

The Apex body of the Nigeria Labour Unions has flayed the management of CAC for an attempt to kill unionism in the establishment through punitive transfer of trade Union executive, withholding of workers salaries and refusal to remit statutory deductions.

The NLC also frowned at the anti-labor practices by Alhaji Garba Abubakar Registrar General of the CAC.

TheNigerialawyer recalls that Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), had threatened to go on strike.

The Union had gravely expressed their dissatisfaction with the ways they are being allegedly treated unfairly, necessitating taking measures to immediately redress the situation.

The Union alleged that the leadership style of the Registrar General of the CAC, Mr. Garba Abubakar is one that is laced with “high-handedness and grave injustice”.

In addition, the Union noted that they are disgruntled because of “self-opinionated restrictions of vacancies on staff promotions against the recommendations of the committee on organogram, unjustified barring of certain categories of staff from writing promotion examination against the recommendation of the committee on organogram, stoppage of all welfare proposals, hasty, draconian and unilateral decision-making leadership style, punishment of staff by stopping their salaries even before queries were issued during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as denial of earned 2019 promotion arrears,” among others.

Sensitization, mobilization currently ongoing in all branches of AUPCTRE and others affiliates of NLC toward ensuring a successful picketing of CAC National Headquarters.
