Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has opened up about his decision to stop criticizing the federal government in his music.

The Nigerian rapper, known for his socially conscious songs addressing bad governance and societal issues, shared his thoughts during a private listening party for his latest extended play (EP), ‘Before The Feast’.

In an interview with TheCable Lifestyle, Falz explained that he wanted to avoid being seen as a constant complainer. “I do not want that guy to get to a point where he is seen as ‘you guys just dey complain’. I do not want to ever get to that point. That is why I am taking a pause from just complaining. I want to rearrange how I am doing it,” he stated.

The rapper emphasized that he aims to evoke a different emotion in his listeners, rather than constantly reminding them of the challenges facing the country. “We already know that we are in wàhálà. Why am I further soaking you in that emotion? I want to bring you out of that emotion in some way and that is what I am trying to do,” Falz added.

When asked about what sets his latest project apart from his previous works, Falz pointed out that ‘Before The Feast’ does not contain any commentary on the current state of affairs in Nigeria. “What differentiates this project from my other works? Maybe this is the project or there is no atom, no iota of attack or commentary as regards the happenings,” he said.

Falz, who has been a prominent figure in the Nigerian music industry since 2009, released his six-track EP, ‘Before The Feast’, on Friday. The project features the single ‘Ndi Ike’, a collaboration with Flavour and Odumodublvck.

Throughout his career, Falz has been recognized for his musical talents, winning awards such as ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards. In addition to his music, Falz has also made a name for himself in the film industry, making his movie debut in ‘Couple of Days’ (2016).
