A major of the Nigerian Army, Churchill Orji, has been reported dead Source told TheNigeriaLawyer.

Major Orji died as a result of explosive device (IEDs) at Orsumoghu,  Ihiala, in Anambra state.

Source said, the team were on a mission in Ihiala, to detonate explosive devices (IEDs), that were planted in the village by unknown gunmen. 

He also said that other soldiers sustained decrees of injuries but Major Orji died Immediately as a result of the explosion.

“The members of the community were  chased out of the village and the community taken over by the unknown gunmen When they got information that the Army was coming for them, the men of the underworld planted explosives.

“The team has detonated some devices but there is this particular one that was difficult to detonate, it is at the point that Major Orji, came to assist but unfortunately the device exploded killing him and causing injuries to the other soldiers,” source said.

Major Orji hailed from Agulu, Anaocha, Local Government Area, in Anambra state.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga,  said he was yet to receive a report about the incident.

Recently, Ihiala axis, bordering Imo State,  has been known for notorious activities.

Normalcy was gradually returning to the area before the recent development.

There was crisis in the area after the killing of a militant identified as ‘Double Lion’, who operated from Orlu area of Imo State through some communities in Ihiala and Nnewi South in Anambra.

Double Lion and four members of his gang were killed by a suspected rival group at Ihiala in June.
