The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it received a staggering 573,519 applications for just 3,927 job positions in its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, merely a week after opening its recruitment portal.

The update was provided by the NCS National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abdullahi Maiwada, who gave a detailed breakdown of the applications across different cadres.

  • Superintendent Cadre (General Duty): 249,218 applicants (HND and university degree holders).
  • Superintendent Cadre (Support Staff): 27,722 applicants.
  • Inspector Cadre (General Duty): 115,634 applicants (National Diploma/NCE holders).
  • Inspector Cadre (Support Staff): 12,952 applicants.
  • Customs Assistant Cadre (General Duty): 153,593 applicants (Secondary school certificate holders with minimum credits in Mathematics and English).
  • Customs Assistant Cadre (Support Staff): 14,400 applicants.

The Federal Government, through Finance Minister Olawale Edun, had earlier approved the recruitment of 3,927 officers into the Nigeria Customs Service to address workforce needs and enhance operational efficiency.

The massive number of applications highlights the high demand for employment opportunities in Nigeria and the prestige associated with serving in the Nigeria Customs Service.

The NCS assured applicants of a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, urging candidates to follow updates from official NCS channels for the next steps in the recruitment exercise.

The recruitment process continues, and successful candidates will be contacted in due course.
