The state Chief Judge and Chairman Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NJSC), Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, over the weekend, recognized and honoured members of staff who excelled in the promotion examination and as well distinguished themselves in their places of primary assignment.

She nevertheless challenged the beneficiaries who also did well in the first and second ever conducted promotional examinations for the judicial staff to re-dedicate themselves to duty and all official responsibilities as according to her, ‘awards and recognitions should serve as motivation for more hard work’.

Speaking at the presentation of the award to 14 staff for performing well in the two categories of promotion examinations conducted by the NJSC, Justice Halima assured that the judiciary under her watch will always reward staff for exceptional performances to promote efficiency and competence.

“It is a matter within public knowledge that there has been a drastic decline in performances and productivity among judicial staff, some of the reasons behind the trend includes; poor supervision, near absence of proper, efficient and effective assessment methodologies and strategies”.

In line with extant regulations and for the promotion of efficiency and competence in the administration of justice, the state Judiciary according to her has decided to embark on intensive capacity building and Retreat for all categories of judicial staff.

Justice Halima, who, however, expressed regrets that efforts made to sensitize and enlighten staff on the need to fill the APER FORM which is one of the fundamental requirements for promotion was not yielding desired results as many staff have failed or decided not to fill the form.

She, therefore, cautioned that officers who fall within the field of selection for promotion shall be considered except those who are under disciplinary action., adding that ‘any officer who fails promotion examination on three consecutive attempts on same grades and whose on-the-job performance has been assessed to below average shall be required to leave the service’.

While specifically appreciating the Lead Consultant, Ndagi Usman Wali Esq, the former Solicitor General of Niger State and his team for their zeal and dedications, the Chief Judge said it was wonderful working with them and former members of the commission for their sense of camaraderie.

The Honorees included the Directorate Cadre namely; His Worship Amina Laminde M Said,
the Magistrate/Shari’a Judge, His Worship Ruth Ibrahim, His Worship Khadija Ahmed, His Worship Abdullahi Mohammed Bawa and His Worship Ibrahim Musa Zago.

Other Categories of staffs from both the High Court and Sharia Court of Appeal respectively are; Mr. John Tswanka Yisa, Hassan Buhari, Zulaihat Mohammed, Abubakar N Mohammed, Usman Aliyu Erena, Ibrahim Babanna Abdullahi and Mohammed Aminu Abdulmumin.
