*Wishes Them Fruitful and Successful Deliberations

Chairman, NBA Welfare Committee, Yakubu Chonoko(YC) Maikyau SAN, said It is indeed his utmost pleasure to say a few words of goodwill to the entire NBA Calabar Branch (aka Doyen Bar) on the auspicious occasion of her 2022 Law Week.

The Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch (the “Doyen Bar”) will today commenced her 2022 law week, which will end on Sunday, the 10th day of April, 2022.

The theme of the law week is “We, the People: Agenda for National Consensus”.

Y.C, in his goodwill message to the Branch  thanked particularly the Branch Chairman, Mr Attah Ochinke and other members of the Executive Committee as well as the Law Week Planning Committee, for providing our members within the environs of Calabar, a unique opportunity for cross-fertilization of ideas, impactful learning, networking  and social interaction.

“Upon reflection,  the organisers of this year’s  Law week could not have selected a more appropriate theme. ‘’We the People, An agenda for National Consensus’’, is indeed an apt theme  bearing in mind the current state of our  nation.

“The various problems affecting our democracy such as wide spread  insecurity, slow rate of infrastructural development, high rate of unemployment, poverty and slow economic growth, may indeed be symptomatic of a  deep rooted problem; the inability of the Nigerian People within the current legal framework, to set clear and workable terms to realise the benefits of the social contract between we the people and our elected representatives in Government.

“I earnestly look forward to the contributions from the various eminent and erudite speakers  invited to this law week, as their views would help shed light on the modalities or prescriptions required for a more robust national consensus and, particularly how we as the NBA, can take the lead towards the recovery, reformation  and repositioning of the Nigerian State.

“Furthermore, there is no doubt that the vibrancy of the Doyen Bar,  is one that reassures the Nigerian citizens that  lawyers remain conscious of their hallowed duty to take the lead in ensuring the realisation of the true and ideal dream of the founding fathers of this nation.

“I commend the Law Week Planning Committee on the smooth planning and consequent execution of this event.

“I encourage all participants to take advantage of the array of erudite resource persons invited to this law week to enrich our knowledge as we apply same in our pursuit of an ideal Nigeria-which serves the interest of the majority, if not all Nigerians.

“Finally, I wish all participants successful deliberations.

“God bless Calabar Branch(Doyen Bar)
“God bless Nigerian Bar Association
“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
