The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA SPIDEL) has announced a review of its annual membership dues and the appointment of a new Publicity Secretary.

In a notice issued on November 10th, SPIDEL Chairman John Aikpokpo-Martins disclosed that the section’s annual dues have been revised upwards effective January 1, 2023 based on a resolution of its last Annual General Meeting.

After careful consultations, the Officers have determined the following rates:

  1. Members with 1-5 years post-call experience will pay N5,000.
  2. Members with 6-10 years post-call experience will pay N10,000.
  3. Members with 11-20 years post-call experience will pay N15,000.
  4. Members with 21 years post-call and above will pay N20,000.
  5. Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) will be charged N30,000.

This adjustment aims to ensure fair and equitable contributions from members based on their experience and standing within the legal profession. Members are encouraged to adhere to the new fee structure for the upcoming year.

The notice also conveyed the appointment of Sadiya Bahjatu Saleh of the Bauchi NBA branch as the new Publicity Secretary of the SPIDEL section with immediate effect. Her appointment fills the vacancy for the role per the mandate given to SPIDEL officers at the last AGM.

According to Aikpokpo-Martins, the dues review and new appointment align with resolutions unanimously agreed to at the section’s 2022 AGM in Abuja. He thanked members for their support and expressed confidence the measures will enhance SPIDEL’s capacity to serve its members, the NBA and society.

The SPIDEL section is dedicated to promoting the practice of law in sports, entertainment, music and digital media in Nigeria. It is one of over 100 professional interest groups under the umbrella of the NBA.
