The Nigerian Bar Association has declared the Election Committee chaired by Reginald Ukwuoma as unconstitutional.

This was disclosed in a letter signed by the first Vice President, John Aikpokpo-Martins, dated 28th June, 2021, sighted by TheNigerialawyer.

The letter also stated that Election Committee constituted by the General Meeting of the Branch on the 20th of February, 2020 chaired by Revd. Uzoma Ahunaya, Esq, remains the only valid Committee.

28th June, 2021

The Chairman,
NBA Okehi Branch.
Sir,

RE: DISBAND THE NBA OKEHI ELECTORAL COMMITTEE FOR CORRUPT PRACTICES & NON-QUALIFICATION AND APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS INTO THE COMMITTEE LED BY REGINALD UKWUOMA ESQ: NEED FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF CARETAKER COMMITTEE AND OR INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMITTEE FOR THE CONDUCT OF FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTION INTO VARIOUS OFFICES.

I am directed by the President, Olumide Akpata to inform you that the petition written by some 7 members of the Okehi Branch under the auspices of “concerned members of Nigeria Bar Association Okehi” making several allegations against the Chairman of the Branch, Dame Ngozi Iroegbu and members of the Election Committee led by Reginald Ukwuoma, Esq. has been thoroughly investigated.

Be informed that the investigation proved that the Election Committee constituted by the General Meeting of the Branch on the 20th of February, 2020 and chaired by Revd. Uzoma Ahunaya, Esq. being a standing committee of the Branch by virtue of Article 10(3) of the Uniform Bye-law for Branches is the substantive Election Committee of Okehi Branch until dissolved by the General Meeting or by operation of Article 19(2) of the Uniform Bye-laws for Branches.

Consequent on the above, I am further directed to inform you that the Election Committee purportedly constituted on the 22nd day of April 2021 and chaired by Reginald Ukwuoma Esq., is therefore unconstitutional. Inevitably, therefore, the Election Committee set up on the 20th day of April 2021 is hereby set aside. The Branch is hereby further directed to ensure that the composition of the substantive Election Committee complies strictly with the provisions of Article 3(9) of the Uniform Bye-law for Branches.

Yours Respectfully,
John Aikpokpo-Martins,
1st Vice President, NBA
.

1. Cc: Moses Otamiri,
On behalf of the “Concerned
Members of NBA Okehi.”

2. Reginald Ukwuoma,
Election committee,
Okehi Branch.
