*Lawyers Commend Process So Far

Outgoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Olumide Akpata has led tens of delegates and other lawyers in the 2022 Annual General Conference of the NBA (NBA-AGC) Health Walk which held from 8am on Saturday.

The 2022 NBA-AGC – the 62nd in the series – kicked off Friday at the prestigious Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island Lagos

The Health Walk started at Eko Atlantic through Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola and Adeola Odeku before ending at Eko Atlantic, venue of the AGC 2022.

Highlights of the fun-filled event included dance, music, aerobics, and exercise among others.

The NBA-AGC Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) set the NBA-AGC ball rolling on Friday with a well-attended Juma’at service at the Lagos Central Mosque.

Chairman, 2022 TCCP, Tobenna Erojikwe, welcomed delegates to the event.

“We particularly welcome those who have come from outside Lagos and we wish the rest who are on their way, Godspeed on your travels,” Erojikwe said.

“We are equally elated at the prompt and seamless accreditation process and collection of Conference Materials which lasted from 4pm to 10pm, yesterday (Friday).”

He explained that the accreditation process and collection of conference materials would resume today at 4pm Saturday.

Erojikwe added: “We are compelled to make this adjustment because, unfortunately, some of the site contractors have not completely removed their equipment from the site. Upon observation during the collection of materials yesterday, it was clear that it would be best to avoid any potential health and safety hazards that could occur.

“We regret any inconvenience that this is sure to occasion, but we remain assured of your continued understanding.”

Earlier Friday, lawyers commended the Akpata-led NBA administration and the TCCP for ensuring a smooth accreditation and conference materials collection process.

A cross-section of lawyers said they were highly impressed with the seamless process, adding that it was devoid of stress.

Bright Jimoh (Lagos Branch) said the process was “not stressful, very organized, queue not much” and gave thumbs-up to the organisers.

Ifeanyichukwu Obiakor, a former chairman of NBA, Awka Branch, said, “Excellent arrangements, very seamless. Your number is called and then we enter batch by batch and get the tags and materials.”

Solomon Etisang (Lagos Branch) said he was expecting the process to be stressful, which Lagos is generally known for, but was pleasantly surprised that it was not.

“I got my tags and bags easily,” Etisang added.

Ms Uche Nwokolo from the Port Harcourt Branch IHS legal unit, said, “In all honesty, I am very impressed with what I am seeing. I got here 6pm, it was very fast. I received everything in less than 30 minutes. I am happy.”

Chief Odum, past chair, Awka Branch, described the arrangements as beautiful. According to him, when he got to the venue and saw the arrangements, he had thought it would take long to get through the accreditation and collection of conference materials. It did not, however, take long.

Odum said he was “happy with the process” and gave kudos to the organisers.

For Nnoso Ezema (Lagos Branch), the process has been easy. “Nothing gave me a headache so far.”

The TCCP had earlier notified conference attendees that accreditation/collection of materials would commence at 4pm on Friday, August 19, 2022.

“All registered attendees are urged to be at Eko Atlantic, the collection site, at the specified time and not earlier, as there will be NO ENTRY until 4pm,” the TCCP said.
