The Nigerian Bar Association Omoku Branch (The Legacy Bar) has elected a new set of executives to run its affairs for the next term of two years.

The hybrid election was conducted on Friday 21st July, 2023 immediately after the branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at its secretariat complex under construction christened ‘The Hon. Justice M. U. Peter-Odili, JSC (RT’d.) Legacy Law Center’ in Omoku, Headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State. However, eligible members who could not attend the AGM physically, were able to vote electronically via the online election platform which ended by 2pm.

At the close of the voting exercise, counting and collation of votes by the Election Committee (ELECO), the result was announced by its Chairman Marauche Umah, Esq.

According to the ELECO Chairman, Ekeledinichukwu Ordu, Esq. was elected Chairman winning his closest rival with just two votes. Gloria I. Odila, Esq. was elected Vice Chairman in a landslide, defeating her fellow female contestant with a wide margin of 68% of the total vote cast, making her the first female Vice Chairman of the branch since its creation in 2016.

For the office of the General Secretary of the branch, Ferdinand C. S. Onyimah, Esq. was elected defeating his rival on a wide margin by polling 63% of the total vote casts. Other officers of the branch were elected unopposed. They are Okporo Binoye, Esq. Assistant Secretary; Dimkpa Osiagor, Esq. as Treasurer; Kate Nwosi,  Esq. as Welfare Secretary and Dike Ibra, Esq. as Legal Adviser.

The newly elected officials were immediately inaugurated by outgoing Chairman of the branch Nnamdi C. O. Gabriel, Esq. who is a Notary Public.

Leader of the Legacy Bar Sir Emeka Ichoku admonished the new executives to focus on ensuring the completion of the branch’s secretariat building under construction and named after a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria His Lordship Hon. Justice Mary U. Peter-Odili, JSC (Rtd). He commended the outgoing Chairman Nnamdi C. O. Gabriel, Esq. and his team for setting a greater pace for the Bar and taking the young branch to enviable heights.

The Bar leader Ichoku also charged members to be dedicated and show commitment to the Legacy Bar, noting that the day’s election was defined by reward for service as according to him, those who were elected won because members used their votes to appreciate and reward their previous individual commitments, sacrifices and dedications in their services to the Legacy Bar. He mobilized other members to pick forms and occupy the remaining uncontested vacant positions in the Bar.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman Ekeledinichukwu Ordu, Esq. thanked the members on behalf of all the elected officials for finding them worthy of their votes, promising to justify the confidence reposed on them. He thanked the outgoing Chairman Barr. Gabriel for his numerous achievements, soliciting for supports and guidance from him.
