The Nigerian Bar Association’s Garki Branch in Abuja is set to host a webinar session on October 20th to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the EndSARS social movement.

EndSARS refers to the decentralized campaign against police brutality that began in October 2020, with protesters using the hashtag #EndSARS to demand an end to assaults and human rights abuses by the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit.

The NBA Garki Branch webinar aims to honor the victims of the protests, appraise lessons learned, and evaluate progress made in ending police brutality since the 2020 events.

Interested participants can register for the free webinar scheduled for 10AM on October 20th via a link provided by the organizers. The session will feature interactive discussions on the legacy of EndSARS and evaluating gains made towards police reform over the past 3 years.

The NBA Garki Branch Human Rights Committee is organizing the event as a tribute to those affected by the intense protests that followed nationwide calls to abolish SARS. The 2020 demonstrations turned violent after a brutal crackdown, resulting in loss of lives and extensive property damage.

As Nigeria marks three years since the EndSARS movement grabbed global headlines, the webinar will provide a forum for reflection, fact-finding and envisioning solutions to persisting police accountability issues. Registration is open in advance online for those wishing to join the NBA Garki Branch virtual EndSARS anniversary event.
