The name, Okey Leo Ohagba, rings a bell within the NBA, especially to the younger lawyers. The reason is not far-fetched. He has indelibly inscribed his name on the roll of young lawyers’ hall of fame for his leadership acumen, Sterling qualities and a dogged determination to advancing the cause of young lawyers in Nigeria.

Unbeknownst to Okey Ohagba while he brilliantly delivered in office as National Secretary NBA Young Lawyers’ Forum Governing Council between 2012 to 2014, he was undergoing training for greater assignments in Bar leadership. He is competent, innovative and prodigious in achievements. I comfortably say he is ‘tested and trusted’.

Okey’s unabating vocal advocacy for welfare and capacity building for younger lawyers is real and apolitical, spanning from his days as the young lawyers’ scribe. He championed the creation of young lawyers Forum across many branches of NBA nationwide and organized best Summits and Conferences in YLF history. His organizational ability is second to none. He has been very consistent as a shining example and inspiration to young lawyers across Nigeria. Reward for hardwork, they say, is more work. ‘More work for Okey as NBA GS’ 2020.

Okey Ohagba’s intimidating profile depicts his competence, capacity, vibrancy, diligence, hardwork and excellence in professional carreer and service to the Bar. He is that proverbial square peg in a square hole.

Enough of the opinion peddled by a few who insist that younger lawyers should be insulated from NBA politics. Salute to the majority who progressively opine that the greatness of today’s younger lawyer defines the future Bar.

My fellow young lawyers, this is an opportunity to take our destiny in our hands and to break new grounds. Of all the GS aspirants, it’s unarguable that Okey Ohagba is closer to us and appreciates our plight better. He excelled tremendously as National Secretary of NBA Young Lawyers Forum, he excelled as NBA First Assistant Secretary, he excelled as NBA REP on the Board of CAC, and many more. In all these positions of service, he left imprints of innovation and astounding excellence. I’m convinced he would excel as General Secretary of NBA if we give him our mandate. The time is now, let’s support our own and canvass for him. He is our best bet for NBA GENERAL SECRETARY. OKEY IS OK !

THANK YOU.
