NBA PRESIDENT WISHES LAWYERS A HAPPY WORKERS DAY.

Today is celebrated all over the world by workers and institutions to honour the dignity of labour . The Nigerian legal Profession has evolved as a strong voice for the promotion of rule of law and due process. The great strides and successes that the Nigerian Bar Association has achieved are as a result of the selfless service, sacrifice and commitment exhibited by the members of the NBA, both in the public and private sectors.

The NBA has continued to play leading roles and a worthy partner with labour movements in our shared quest for a more egalitarian society where there is respect for the Nigerian workers and resist anti-democratic forces. The present democratic experience Nigeria has was made possible by the sacrificial efforts of Nigerian lawyers working in conjunction other Civil Society Organisations. The NBA continues to stand firm on these noble principles.

The NBA recognises the invaluable contributions of our great bar leaders and distinguished members in the struggle for a better society. We therefore, dedicate today to all the lawyers who have continued to make sacrifices by way of pro bono work and dedicating their time to the service of humanity; those that have contributed in many ways to the successes of the Bar as the defender of the rule of law. The NBA honours you.

However, Nigeria is presently in trying times. With the increase in insecurity of lives and properties, abuse of human rights and deliberate efforts by public agencies to ignore due process, Nigerians have never had it this bad. The NBA, as usual, would not be deterred and would continue to intervene by ensuring that the fundamental rights of Nigerians are respected and the rule of law is entrenched in the administration of this country.

The NBA commends and would continue to count on its members, who have shown great resilience and commitment to the virtues that the NBA stands for. Together, we must succeed and build a stronger NBA.

On behalf of the National Officers of the Nigerian Bar Association, the NBA President, Paul Usoro, SAN wishes all NBA members a Happy Workers Day.

Kunle Edun
National Publicity Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association.
