At the ongoing Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, Attorney-General of Ekiti State who heads the NBA Sexual Harassment Policy Implementation Committee, Mr. Wale Fapohunda, officially presented the revised Sexual Harassment Policy of the NBA and the Guidelines for its implementation to the NBA President, Mr. Olumide Akpata.
The Sexual Harassment Policy Implementation Committee was set-up in October of 2021 following the launch of the “Sexual Harassment Policy” drafted by the NBA Women’s Forum.
The NBA President in receiving the policy noted that the NBA will not pay lip service to the issues of sexual harassment within the Association or by its members. Mr. Akpata further noted that action is already being taken by the NBA against sexual harassment by or against members and that a petition was received by the Association alleging acts of sexual harassment by a secretary of one of the Branches and the matter is thoroughly being investigated and upon conclusion disciplinary action will immediately follow if liability is established.
Mr. Akpata therefore also charged his successor, President-elect, Y.C. Maikyau SAN, to keep up with the implementation of the policy and ensure that the issues faced by any section of the Association is effectively dealt with.
