The National Assembly Management has informed the National Assembly Legislative Aides’ Forum (NASSLAF) of stringent security measures being implemented around the National Assembly (NASS) in light of the planned nationwide protest set to begin on August 1, 2024.

The measures aim to ensure the safety and security of NASS staff, legislative aides, and essential service workers during this period of heightened tension.

According to the guidelines shared by NASSLAF, entry into the NASS Complex will be generally restricted, with access granted only to those possessing valid identification cards. Aides holding Letters of Appointment or Temporary ID Cards will not be permitted to enter the premises. Furthermore, construction work within the NASS Complex has been temporarily suspended, and site workers and other non-essential personnel are prohibited from accessing the area.

In addition to the strict entry protocols, there will be a heavy deployment of security personnel around the National Assembly. Aides are advised to limit the number of visitors they bring to NASS during the protest period and to cooperate fully with the Sergeant at Arms and security agents during checks. Access to the National Assembly will be limited to the main gate only.

Recognizing the potential risks associated with the protest, NASSLAF has advised aides to prioritize their safety. If an aide senses danger or feels it is unsafe to travel to work during the first 10 days of the protest, they are not obligated to do so. The NASSLAF and PASAN buses will also suspend operations during the early stages of the protest until the situation stabilizes.

Legislative aides are urged to remain vigilant and cautious, closely monitoring the security situation in their surroundings and taking necessary precautions to avoid any potential harm. The National Assembly Management and NASSLAF are working together to ensure the well-being of all staff members during this challenging time.
