A bidder in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) ongoing vehicle auction has reported suspicious activity, claiming his winning bid mysteriously disappeared from the system.

The bidder, identified as @Chizytelu on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that a Mercedes-Benz C300 with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98, which he won with a bid of N5,570,001, suddenly vanished from the auction site after his successful bid.

“I’ve just seen magic happen right before my eyes. A C300 with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98 that I bid on and won at N5,570,001 just vanished from the auction site,” he posted.

In a follow-up post, the bidder revealed that when he contacted the auctioneer about the disappearance, he was told it was “out of his hands” and was advised to contact the EFCC directly about the matter.

This incident raises questions about the transparency of the e-auction process, which is part of the EFCC’s larger initiative to dispose of approximately 900 vehicles recovered from corrupt politicians and other criminal investigations.

The controversy emerges just days after the anti-graft agency announced its nationwide e-auction under the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act 2022. The EFCC has not yet responded to these allegations of irregularities in the auction process.
