*Recommends Disciplinary Action Against Him For Alleged Betrayal Of Fidelity

Following the controversy which emanated yesterday from the emergence of an alternative body of lawyers in the country, the Warri branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has reportedly distanced itself from the actions of one of its members, and a Former General Secretary of the Association, Nimi Walson-Jack.

In a letter of introduction to the Body of Benchers from the newly created Law Society of Nigeria, Mr. Nimi Walson-Jack was mentioned as the Vice president of the Society. Nimi Walson-Jack is a Former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association and is seen as one of the spearheads of the parallel lawyer body.

A credible source informed TheNigerialawyer, that it was unanimously resolved by the branch that the action of Nimi Watson-Jack being a past General Secretary of the Bar is highly condemnable and amounts to a betrayal of fidelity.

It was further resolved that Warri Branch should write to Mr President of the NBA requesting that all privileges due to Nimi Watson-Jack as a past General Secretary be suspended immediately as he cannot be reasonably enjoying from the Association while he is working for its division.

Also, the branch roundly condemned the move by the splinter group to create a parallel body for lawyers, and asserted to no member of the Warri branch will be a member of the LSN.

As at the time of making this report, we await an official memo from the branch leadership.
