Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ekpoma branch Osehon Irehovbude Esq MCArb has called on lawyers to sit up in their game as ministers in the Temple of Justice.

Irehovbude made this remark on Sunday stating that gone are the days when lawyers are only seen in courts representing their clients but should be seen as an instrument of change and creativity.
He said as lawyers we should be instruments of positive change, creativity, problem solvers and ministers in the temple of justice rather than just advocates for our clients in traditional and orthodox thinking.
“The modern Nigerian lawyer should think outside the box, he should be trained clinically in social justice issues and reforms to develop the vision of a lawyer’s role as a problem solver committed to justice.
“Lawyers must be trained in special skills on dispute analysis, appropriate or alternative dispute resolution methods as well as ability to assess in all cases which best serves the interest of the parties in particular and justice in general,” he said.
To buttress his point he made reference to a section of Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC).
“This, in my opinion, is envisaged under section 15(3)(d) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, which provides for some of the steps a lawyer should take towards ensuring that the society becomes a better place to live in rather than just to maximize gains for his clients at the expense of the society or harm of the other party .
“Change should not be restricted to the legal profession alone but to the larger society where the law is been practiced,” he added.
